Orchis mascula (L.)L.

English Name : Early Purple Orchis

Family : Orchidaceae

Description
Plant up to 60cm tall. Purple spotted leaves. Pink-purple flowers 12-16mm.

Habitat
Woodland, copses and open pastures in base rich soils

Parts Used : Tuber and flower

Nutritive, astringent, expectorant, antidiarrheal and demulcent

Active Ingredients
A volatile oil, bitter compound and mucilage.

Medicinal Use
As a tonic to increase nerve strength and as an aphrodisiac; in dysentery, diarrhea and persistent fever; in the treatment of irritations of the gastro-intestinal canal; The young flower extract is used in treating premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction.
